"Trail running requires you to check your ego at the door."

Meet Kate: marathon runner, certified run coach and the voice behind www.socalrunnergal.com

We asked her to describe her perfect trail run, and this is what she had to say.

“Trail running is humbling and requires you to check your ego at the door. Just try to run the same pace as on the roads and you will quickly realize it’s unachievable. I hated this at first but I think I have finally learned to let that go. Pace is irrelevant out on the trails, so it’s best to embrace the freedom, unplug, and just run.”

Pace is irrelevant out on the trails, so it’s best to embrace the freedom.

My perfect trail…

Weaves between towering trees that offer respite from the blazing sun.

It is soft and springy underfoot and damp from the early morning dew.

The air is cool, crisp and clean and cleanses my lungs.

The path is well-worn and clearly enjoyed by many, yet it’s rare to see another face.

My perfect trail provides solitude and a little brain vacation.

It wears me out but gives me life at the same time.

On my perfect trail, I feel wild. I’m on an outdoor adventure with my pup by my side.
